Payload Bay Door Bulkhead Switch Module



Visible from the aft Flight Deck windows on each side of the aft bulkhead are two switch modules that house the three Ready-To-Latch and single Close microswitches for the door (one module for each door). In the position shown below, the door is open and the "paddle" of the switch module is fully extended. As the door comes closed, it will contact the paddle and slightly depress it, causing three RTL microswitches to activate. When the door is fully closed, the paddle pushes in more and contacts the single CL microswitch. This mechanism may not be visible from the flight deck depending on other structures in the payload bay.
